Sorry Everyone

I know we haven’t written in a while but there really isn’t anything interesting to write about yet. Rob and I are still looking for a boat and trying to figure out the details. The interesting part will be when we actually leave for our trip ;). I’m getting excited because this is the time of year to buy a boat and I’m finding some potential’s. When we get a boat I’ll let you all know!!! I hope it’s soon, we haven’t given up.

The Boat Show

So this past weekend Robert and I went to the Annapolis, MD boat show. We were going to take tons of pictures but we had quite the trip and didn’t have time. On the way up my car’s timing belt broke and we were stuck on the side of a highway for two hours. Finally the tow truck driver showed up and we had to take my car back to the house and switch out to a different car and start the journey all over again. And of course we got lost… hope we are better at navigating on the open oceanJ. It was so worth all the trouble when we got up there. My mom and dad who had already spent the whole day and day before that up there showed us all the really nice boats before they closed. I had planned on seeing a boat for sail while I was up there for the day but unfortunately didn’t have enough time to go see it. Other then that Rob and I have just been busy surfing the web for boats and trying to stay on top of college!

What I have found so far...

I have been looking at different models of boats and different sizes. I have come across quite a few boats that have had really nice layouts or features that Robert and I have liked. There is one boat that I have fallen in love with because of the layout and how open it is even though it is not a huge boat. It is the Beneteau 42’ with the center cockpit. There is only one huge problem with it… it is way out of our price range! If anyone knows any boats that have similar layouts and that have a center cockpit but are a bit older or more in our price range PLEASE let me know! The main things that we like are that it has a full bed not just a v-berth, open space to move around, and the stern has a fold up and down swimming platform which would make it a lot easier for when we go diving. Please if anyone knows about a boat similar to this one just post it in comments!!

Here is the boat so you can look at the pictures and see what I’m talking about! http://www.marinesource.com/boat_sales/beneteau_42_center_cockpit_10701649301.html

Issues

So there are a few obstacles we have to get around in order to go on this trip. Sadly all of the issues have to do with me (Robert). The first and probably the hardest issue is getting my medicine. I have RA, so I am on Humera the drug not only costs ~$2000 a month without insurance. The drug also has to be refrigerated and can not be stored a very long time. Well in some countries it may be possible to have the medicine overnighted from the US, It may be hard to organize a pick up location and to ensure it arrives on time. The next issue I have is my student loans, because I have been in school for 5 years and been through grad school I have a substantial amount of student loans. Well if you have any good Ideas please leave a comment explaining. One thought I had was taking distance learning classes that way I can keep my health insurance and not have to payback my student loans.

Still looking

Sorry everyone for posting this blog late. Yesterday was a crazy day we ended up having to drive up to Maryland and then all the way back down to Radford, VA. I have been looking online for a sailboat for the last two weeks and haven’t found anything too interesting there was a boat that Robert and I liked but unfortunately it was already sold. If you see any boats that are interesting, have any comments, or just want to leave advice we would love to hear it.

A really cool thing we have incorporated in the site is a interactive map. This map will alow us to show you the interesting places that we have been/go. It will also allow you to show us the places you have been . We would apreciate it if you would mark the interesting places that you have been along with adding a description telling us what you loved about it so that we can get the most out of our trip. To view this map follow this link we will be updating it this week so check back! http://platial.com/map/places-we-ve-been-and-places-to-go/493041#post3934343

I really like the layout of this boat!

Help us find our dream boat

We are currently searching for a boat that will take us around the world and that we can live comfortably in for a year or more. We are looking for something between the sizes of 37’ up to 45’ with either steel or fiberglass hull for under $50,000. She must be in good condition and ready to sail. Robert and I may make some minor changes to her so she doesn’t have to be perfect but we are definitely not looking for a project boat. Things that would be nice to have are; an oven and stove top, shower, holding tank with electric pump out, 150gal or larger water tank, water heater, water maker, solar panels, wind generator, auto pilot, radar, GPS, depth finder, batteries, a/c and heat, electric refrigerator, dingy, life raft, scuba air compressor, diesel engine, 100gal diesel tank, and all sails and rigging included in good condition. Of course not all of this has to be on the boat it would just be nice to start out with as much as we can! If you have suggestions for equipment or if you know of any boats that we would be interested in could you please leave a comment or email us at worldadventure09@gmail.com If you want us to we will add you to our email list and notify you when we publish new posts.

expect to see another entry on September 21st
